Looking for a dynamic community with a variety of commercial businesses and sporting activities? Then Walkerton is ideal for you. Located in the Municipality of Brockton on the Saugeen River, Walkerton bridges the gap between being an agricultural community and a thriving business centre.
The Walkerton Community Centre is home to an ice arena from September to March, as well as an auditorium for social functions and community groups. An outdoor swimming pool at Centennial Park is perfect for a cool dip during the summer and tennis courts and baseball diamonds are available nearby.
Walkerton has an abundance of parkland and The Saugeen River Trail provides over 6 kilometres of area for walking and cycling. Canoes docks, a lookout platform and picnic tables are also available. The trail gives a beautiful and scenic view of the river as it winds its way through town.
Walkerton’s Cross Country Ski Trail System is one of the best in Ontario, perfect for the winter sports enthusiast, while fans of canoeing and fishing can enjoy the river itself, home to rainbow trout, small mouth bass, perch and salmon. A fish ladder on the Truax Dam (the only vertical-slot ladder east of the Rockies) on the east side of the river allows rainbow trout to swim upstream during spawning season.
If you’re dedicated to eating locally, the Walkerton Farmer’s Market offers fresh vegetables, fruits and other items every Friday between Victoria Day and Labour Day.
Whether you are looking for a stately older house, an established single-family dwelling or a new condominium, Walkerton is the perfect place for the active family to call home.
